Having become one of the biggest hotspots in central London, you’ve probably seen Sketch restaurant popping up all over your Instagram. With its three avant-garde instalments, the pastel pink David-Shrigley décor filled addition ‘The Gallery’ is easily the most popular out of the three. Whether you’re going for breakfast, afternoon tea or dinner, you wouldn’t really be going if you weren’t posting a picture for Instagram.

I Went to Sketch Just to Take Selfies in the Bathroom

By Xavier Singh

To my surprise, the dish although quite sparse in content, was considerably filling. Worried that I’d still I ordered also ordered a side of sweetcorn gratin which was a delightful addition to my main meal.

Sketch’s unisex bathroom; although male and female toilets separated by pink and blue neon lights cascaded on the floor, is the staple of all Instagram photo opportunities. From the oval shaped individual toilet pods to the rainbow lights on the ceiling, it was only fitting that I gratified my experience at the restaurant by taking an obligatory selfie.

For my first time at Sketch, I would say my experience was incredibly joyful, and I’d definitely go again. Although the prices are a tad extortionate, you go for the experience so it doesn’t really matter how much you’re paying when you’ve got a 10/10 selfie.

Ordering from the meatless section of the A La Carte menu, the extremely wonderful waiters and waitresses dressed in co-ordinating suits and decadent paisley dresses, made my time at The Gallery feel as if it was worth its weight in gold. Accompanied by an ambient playlist of the likes of King Krule and Kitty, my selection of the spinach gnocchi served on a green velouté was displayed to me on a plate designed by artist David Shrigley (tableware of which you could actually purchase if you saw fit) and tasted marvellous. Having been talked into the dish by our waitress, she explained the gnocchi was prepared and served in an unconventional way and laid onto the dish underneath the green coloured garlic enriched velouté (a posh way of saying soup) and spinach.
